Colorful Renaissance
Challenge
The project's complexity and scope far exceeded initial expectations, evolving from a straightforward task into a comprehensive, long-term endeavor spanning nearly two years. This extended timeline allowed for the integration of diverse perspectives from all family members, presenting a unique challenge harmonizing the traditional aesthetic preferences of one side of the family with the contemporary modern tastes of the other.
Balancing these contrasting design philosophies required careful consideration, extensive research, and innovative problem-solving to create a cohesive and satisfying result that respected both viewpoints while maintaining the project's integrity and purpose.
Solution
We carefully curated a color palette to create a cohesive and beautiful flow throughout the home, balancing aesthetics with the practical needs of each space. By thoughtfully integrating these colors and design elements, we achieved a cohesive and stylish space that successfully blended diverse tastes and delighted the entire family. Here's a glimpse into our choices:
Exterior
For the exterior, we selected Golden Honey to create a cheerful and welcoming ambiance that harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding forest. To add a playful accent, we incorporated a deep pink hue, ultimately deciding on Razzle Dazzle, at the enthusiastic request of the homeowner's daughter.
Interior
To bridge traditional and contemporary aesthetics, we undertook a comprehensive remodel from 2019 to 2020, crafting a modern style with cohesive, unifying elements.
Main Bedroom
We curated a balanced color palette featuring Greenmount Silk, a delightful blend of cream and butter that brightened the main bedroom. This refined color from the Historical Collection offers a timeless aesthetic, suitable for both traditional and contemporary spaces.
We complemented Greenmount Silk with Chelsea Gray, a sophisticated gray that added an elegant touch to the room.
Main Bathroom
Silver Satin was selected for this room, which is an off-white with warm gray undertone, inherently sophisticated and endlessly versatile.
We did an accent wall in Gentle Violet, a dark, rich amethyst that brings a graceful presence to any room.
Second Bathroom
For the second bathroom, we selected Silver Satin, pairing it with Simply White on the trim and ceiling. This neutral foundation allowed the kids' colorful accessories to truly pop. More importantly, Silver Satin is a versatile shade that will gracefully be adapted as tastes evolve over time.
Foyer
The open foyer was painted in Seapearl, a soft, inviting neutral color. This choice offers a lighter, airier feel while remaining elegantly compatible with the warm accents and natural textures. It's a welcoming introduction to the home.
Kitchen
The heart of the home, the kitchen, also features Seapearl. This warm greige, with its subtle gray undertones, provides a sophisticated backdrop to the vibrant Hollingsworth Green backsplash. The green adds a touch of energy and a visual highlight, creating a balanced and inviting culinary space.
Living Room
To off-set the lack of natural light in the living room, we chose Ice Fog, a light and airy hue that feels both tranquil and sophisticated.
To ground the space and create a focal point, we revitalized the fireplace with Mopboard Black. Despite its playful name, this color delivers a powerful intensity, adding a touch of drama and timeless elegance.
FamilyRoom
The family room is bathed in Bruton White, a remarkably versatile soft gray. Its appearance subtly shifts with the changing light throughout the day. Morning light, reflecting off the trees outside the large windows, brings out a delicate greenish undertone. In the afternoon, it transforms into a cozy and warm embrace. Both are equally beautiful, showcasing the dynamic nature of this sophisticated neutral.
Office
In the office, we incorporated the client's chosen wallpaper on two walls. To complement the design, we painted the remaining walls in Desert Tan, creating a harmonious and cohesive aesthetic.
We then enhanced the room with Simply White trim, and used Squirrel Tail on the door and door frame to add a touch of richness and visual interest, allowing those elements to stand out subtly.
