Challenge
Our goal was to transform a dated ranch house into a stylish and inviting Airbnb, blending Scandinavian design elements to create a tranquil and sophisticated space for guests. The existing property featured a traditional layout with a dark interior due to medium gray walls, small rooms, and limited natural light at the back. The kitchen, bathrooms, basement, and deck required significant renovations, and the exterior needed a modern update. The core challenge was to open up the space, create a brighter and more contemporary feel, while retaining a sense of warmth, functionality, and understated elegance.
Solution
We maximized light and created an open flow by removing two interior walls and refurbishing the kitchen cabinets. We repainted the spaces and added new appliances, fixtures, and countertops. A bright coffee counter became a focal point between the dining area and kitchen. By incorporating Scandinavian design elements, we transformed the dated ranch house into a stylish Airbnb, offering guests a tranquil and sophisticated retreat. These updates balanced modern aesthetics with comfortable functionality, ensuring a memorable experience for all. Here are our renovation details:
Exterior:
We created a welcoming and stylish exterior that hinted at the tranquil retreat within.
Refreshed Entry: The existing dated red doors were repainted, giving them a new lease on life.
Front Door Flair: It was given a vibrant Mediterranean personality with Aqua Marina, a bright periwinkle,reminiscent of spring that sets the tone for the entire home.
Clean Lines: The garage doors and trim were painted in Super White, a radiant and slightly cool white that suggests clarity and simplicity as a clean backdrop.
Modernized Facade: Removing the black front window shutters instantly modernized the facade and significantly enhanced curb appeal.
Dynamic Details: The new black metal floating house numbers added a contemporary touch, completing the exterior transformation.
Deck Transformation: The outdated dark brown deck required a modern refresh. By selecting Covington Blue, a medium blue-green, it added a fresh sophistication for outside enjoyment.
Interior Transformation:
Our primary goal was to create a bright, airy, and welcoming interior space that felt both modern and comfortable.
Open-Concept Design: We removed walls between the living room, dining room, and kitchen, establishing a seamless flow that maximized natural light and spaciousness.
Bright and Airy Palette: The interior walls were painted in Chantilly Lace, a classic white that evokes fresh cotton and pure silk, creating a bright and elegant backdrop. We complemented this with Cloud Cover on the trim, a soft white subtly shaded with a touch of gray, which further enhanced the overall brightness of the home.
Kitchen:
A Bright and Social Heart. The kitchen was redesigned to be both beautiful and functional, serving as a central gathering space within the open-concept layout.
Countertops: The outdated countertop was replaced with a bright, off-white quartz, providing a clean and durable surface.
Breakfast Counter: A breakfast counter was added, seamlessly connecting the kitchen and dining room, encouraging interaction and creating a social hub.
Cabinetry: To create a balanced and inviting aesthetic, the upper cabinets were painted in Chantilly Lace, ensuring a cohesive flow with the overall design. The lower cabinets were then painted a playful Sweet Bluette, adding a touch of personality and a refreshing pop of color without overwhelming the space. This soft, crisp blue evokes tranquility and sophistication, bringing a refreshing calm to the kitchen.
Flooring: White flooring with subtle gray veining was installed, providing a bright and durable surface.
Appliances: New stainless steel appliances were incorporated for a modern and efficient cooking experience.
Fixtures: A rectangular stainless steel sink and matte nickel faucet were installed, adding a touch of contemporary style.
Backsplash: A white backsplash tile with subtle gray veins was used, complementing the countertops and flooring.
Finishing Touches: We introduced natural greenery and two mid-century modern green faux leather counter stools to complete the youthful and inviting look.
Main Bedroom:
A Tranquil Space. The main bedroom was designed as a calming and restful retreat.
Accent Wall: We created an accent wall using Peace and Happiness, a pale, hushed hue with a hint of lavender that promotes relaxation and tranquility. The remaining walls were painted in Chantilly Lace, ensuring the room remained bright and airy.
Main Bathroom:
Modern and Spa-Like. The main bathroom was completely renovated to create a modern and spa-like experience.
Shower: The old shower walls were removed to expand the space, creating a more open and modern feel. The floor support and shower pan were renovated and upgraded for lasting durability.
Hardware: Matte black hardware was used throughout the bathroom, adding a touch of contemporary sophistication.
Color Palette: The walls were painted Chantilly Lace, ensuring a bright and clean aesthetic, with Cloud Cover for the trim to maintain consistency with the rest of the house.
Flooring: The bathroom features new off-white gray flooring with subtle gray veins.
Vanity: A sleek white vanity with matte black faucets was installed, maximizing space.
